Quincy Recreation Department

Welcome to the
Quincy Recreation Department!

Michael "Curty" Curtin
1970-2013

The staff the Quincy Recreation Department is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our friend and co-worker Michael Curtin. Mike has been serving the youth of Quincy since 1988 when he started as a Recreation Leader on the Atlantic Playground. Mike had a unique ability to connect with every child in his care and become a positive influence to generations of Quincy youngsters.  With his characteristic good humor and outgoing personality, Mike particularly endeared himself to the heart of the Squantum community where for decades he supervised the activities at the Squantum Gym. Thousand of youngsters benefited by his enthusiastic personality and caring manner while growing up playing “Curty Ball”, an activity unique to his program at Squantum. We are a significantly better community for his service as a teacher and a Recreation Leader. “Curty” was happiest when being surrounded by children at play.

No man ever stood so tall as when he stooped to help a child!

May he rest in peace.
